Pocket: Lion's Gate Entertainment UMDs

Our Take

Lion's Gate Entertainment has released their first wave of UMDs for PSP owners everywhere, for $19.95 a piece. The first titles available (and used to write this article) are The Punisher, Saw, Open Water, T2: Judgement Day, and National Lampoon's Van Wilder.

Starting in August and continuing thereafter, PSP owners will have a further wealth of titles to choose from. These include House of the Dead, Young Guns, Rambo: First Blood, Stargate, Step Into Liquid, Total Recall, and Universal Soldier. This lineup is expected to continue well into 2006 with even more titles.

This is going to be a short article, as movie summaries will not be provided.
The main focus shall be on movie quality as they've been transfered to UMD format, and are played on a smaller screen, as well as sound.

The graphics are crisp and clear, and wonderful. There's honestly nothing wrong with the graphics. Even at the reduced screen size, the pixel layout provides just as crisp of a picture as a movie theater.

The sound is really dependent upon your PSP and choice of with headphones or without, but it's fine and there aren't any flaws that were noticable.

If you want movies on the go I suggest you pick these up (as long as you have a PSP.) Honestly it is worth it, and it helps waste time while being discreet and non-annoying to others around you if you use the headphones. They don't have as much features as DVD's, but since they're designed for portability it doesn't matter much. You should be able to find them at a store near you, but check your local retailer for availability.
